What Is Radio General?
Radio General - Warrington Hospital Radio service is a voluntary
organisation and registered charity. We provide closed circuit broadcasting to the
patients in Warrington Hospital.
Radio General is run entirely by voluntary activity and is funded by donations from
the public and the generosity of local businesses, together with the fund raising
activities of the members.
The station broadcasts to the patients from studios within the hospital for 24 hours
a day, throughout the year. The programme line-up
consists of record requests, easy listening and chat
shows, together with specialist music programmes, hospital information and
relaxation music, all provided daily.
Live outside broadcasts from events around the town such as concerts from The Parr
Hall and Walking Day are provided on a regular basis. During the rugby season,
commentary direct from Wilderspool Stadium on all of the "Wolves" home games are
broadcast. Arrangements with other hospital radio stations allows commentary on
some away matches.
The church service from the hospital chapel is broadcast each Sunday morning as part
of the "Sunday Selection" programme.
The Past
To find out more about our background, visit our
History Page.
The Present
Even though times have changed, Radio General still broadcasts Request programmes
and rugby commentary from Warrington RLFC home games. We have however expanded our
output drastically. We broadcast live programmes each weekday evening, and throughout
the day at weekends. We also have an automated system which will keep going when we're
not there so that we can provide a true 24 hour service.
The Future
We are always looking for ways to improve our service. We are always open to
suggestions. We now occupy a prestigious new studio complex located right in the
heart of the main entrance. This has boosted our public awareness and with it we
believe our listenership.
Radio General is enthusiastically entering the 21st century. We don't believe
in resting on our laurels. We always strive to be the best we can, and to provide
our listeners with the best possible service.
Plans for further expansion are on the drawing board, but it's too early to say
what will happen. Watch this space!
